Serres Public Central Library realized one more educational program, within the framework of its educational and cultural activities, which have been taking place for the last years.
The educational program presented was entitled “Travelling with
Papadiamantis”. Its goal was to familiarize children with classic Greek authors, by exposing them to a collection of books written in modern Greek, with a remarkable illustration, which were created with the hope (on behalf of the publishers) to make the teaching of literature “fun”.
The educational packet consisted of illustrated Papadiamantis novels, audio-visual material (a videotape, cassettes with music, slides with pictures from the books’ illustration) as well as printed material (extracts from the original text, informative leaflets, information about the author etc.) Moreover, there were suggestions for activities, theatrical games (such as role plays) and many more ideas, which were included in the program, either without being changed or properly adjusted to the needs of the presentation.
While the program was conducted, there was a book fair the premises of the Library, presenting the writer’s complete works as well as other pieces of classic Greek literature in a new version, with the proper illustration. During the sessions, the pupils actively participated in the activities using the material they were given and taking part in team games.
The program was organized and presented by Ms Dora Gkeniou, state school English teacher, who was working at the library during the school year 2002-03.
